Great news for porn actors today. According to a new ordinance granted final approval Tuesday by the Los Angeles City Council condoms are going to be mandatory in all porn films shot in L.A.

Sex and condoms go hand in hands, now so will porn.

This healthy step was voted in 9 to one and next goes to the mayor for his signature. The City Council has ordered police officials, the city attorney and others to hold meetings to figure out how it might be enforced before the law comes into full effect.

Porn producers are less than thrilled

“The only thing that the city could potentially achieve is losing some film permit money and driving some productions away, but you can’t actually compel an industry to create a product that the market doesn’t want,” said Christian Mann, general manager of Evil Angel Productions, a creator of porn films.

Like others in the business, he said large numbers of consumers, especially overseas, consistently refuse to buy films in which condoms are used. Apparently these customers overseas don’t understand how HIV is transmitted.

Considering that 90% of the porn industry is in Los Angeles and that other parts of America are less inclined to be so open minded about having graphic sex scenes filmed in their cities, this isn’t likely.

The porn industry is known for trying to cover up HIV and other STI outbreaks in order to keep condoms off their actors. The fact that L.A. is taking a stand is great. What can you do? Watch adult movies where the actors are wearing condoms and enjoy!
