The scandalous Utah Bill HB363 that would have made abstinence only education the only option for students in Utah. At Erotic News we’ve been following this story from day one and are so happy to see sanity finally overrule the religious ridiculousness that has been running amuck in Utah for the past few months.
Here is what the only sane lawman in Utah had to say about the abstinence only bill.
In rejecting the abstinence only bill Friday, Governor Gary Herbert said that sex education is an emotional topic and instruction should stress the importance of abstinence, but not interfere with parents’ ability to determine how their children are instructed.
“After careful review of existing law and following extensive discussions with stakeholders on both sides of the issue,” Herbert said, “I am convinced the existing statutory framework respects these two principles, while HB363 simply goes too far by constricting parental options.”
Basically Herbert wants parents to have a choice over the type of education their kids get (the kind that works, or the anti-sex ed that doesn’t work).
Power to the Utah people!
A large reason for this bill being overthrown was because of the public outcry and letter writing campaign. The governor’s office was overwhelmed with thousands of letters; more than 40,000 people signed an online petition against it and hundreds rallied against it at the Capitol this week.
It just goes to show that change is still possible when a group of people stand up for a cause.
