Republican Tennessee Sen. Jack Johnson is quite the fear monger! What is he getting people worried about? It’s not crystal meth labs or the bad economy…it’s the frightening “gateway sexual activity” that teens need to be warned about.

That’s right folks, it seems that the lawmakers in Tennessee felt the need to add new language to the state’s abstinence-only sex education curriculum that will warn against “gateway sexual activity.” For more on this, keep reading.

Senate Bill 3310 and the ongoing obsession that Republicans have with the sex lives of others.

Once again the ineffective abstinence only education has reared it’s ugly head, this time with a new amendment to an existing abstinence program. Although Senate Bill 3310 does not specifically define what “gateway sexual activity” comprises, many have interpreted the phrase to include discouragement of anything that has potential to lead to sex — including kissing, hand-holding and cuddling.

Watch out for holding hands or else soon you may be holding a dick!

Here are some sexually repressed words from Republican state Sen. Jack Johnson (the bill’s sponsor) about why the bill would prohibit the promotion of contraception and “any gateway sexual activity or health message that encourages students to experiment with non-coital sexual activity.”

“‘Abstinence’ means from all of these activities, and we want to promote that,”  ”What we do want to communicate to the kids is that the best choice is abstinence.”

Let’s send teachers to jail while we’re at it!

The proposal also creates legal penalties for teachers who go beyond the curriculum to encourage students in ways aside from abstinence. Parents or legal guardians would “have a cause of action against the instructor or organization for actual damages.”

Hopefully an intelligent person higher up on the government will veto this bill, otherwise Tennessee should prepare itself for an onslaught of new teenage mothers in the next few years.
